Asparagus ‘Jersey Giant’

‘Jersey Giant’ Asparagus is the ultimate choice for gardeners seeking high yields and premium-quality spears. This all-male hybrid delivers thick, flavorful green spears with purple highlights, often producing twice the harvest of other varieties. Resistant to rust and tolerant of fusarium root rot and crown rot, ‘Jersey Giant’ focuses entirely on spear production, ensuring a consistent, generous crop every season. Asparagus is nutrient-dense and low in calories, making it a healthy and delicious garden staple.

An Asparagus officinalis cultivar, ‘Jersey Giant’ is a hardy, long-lasting perennial (Zones 3-8) that thrives in sunny, warm climates. Over time, it matures into an attractive plant with feathery green foliage, growing up to 5 feet tall and spreading 2 feet wide.

This cool-season vegetable grows best in full sun, requiring 6 or more hours of daily light. It thrives in rich, well-draining soil with consistent moisture and a pH between 6.0 and 6.7. With its longevity and productivity, ‘Jersey Giant’ asparagus is a valuable addition to any home garden.

Plant 2-year-old, GMO-free roots in early spring after the last frost. Space them 12 to 18 inches apart and cover with 2 inches of soil, or plant in trenches 4 feet apart for larger harvests. A dozen crowns will provide enough asparagus for one person. Plant more for preserving or sharing this delicious crop.
